Another Man’s Treasure

In a few days, we will post the review of Here Comes the Garbage Barge (Unpaged. Schwartz & Wade Books. $17.99. (Ages 4 to 8)) by Chris Sickels (Red Nose Studio) and writer Jonah Winter. The book was honored with its selection by the New York Times Book Review on November 4th as one of the Top Ten “illustrated” books of the year. The characters, sets, props and creative world of Red Nose Studio defines category. “Illustration” is an honor, but it does not describe all that goes into Sickel’s work.  We will go into that shortly, with image of the process and a link you can see on YouTube.

First things first. The coming shopping and building weekend is one of Santa’s biggest. Gift ideas abound. Let six year old Owen Sickels, uninhibited, unbiased, son of illustrator and creator Chris Sickels of Red Nose Studio, be your guide to book buying…

ATG: Owen, we understand you helped your dad make the book Here Comes the Garbage Barge

through your savvy image selection and generally keeping him amused.

What message would you like to send to the children of the world looking for a good book from Santa this year?

Owen: That this is the best book in the whole world.

ATG: Care to elaborate ?

Owen: Nope. That’s everything.

ATG: Can I use your blurb on my dust jacket too?

Owen:  Sure.
