Oh What Fun!
Below, Kevin Brindley tells us how his love of the Caribbean inspired this amazing paper sculpture. Loyal friends and admirers of his wide social media network pushed Brindley’s clock design Island Time to the top over many stunning entries. We asked Kevin to tell us more about his winter “day dreams.”
[By Kevin Brindley] I was introduced to Neenah Paper’s “Time to Shine” Clock Design Contest by Marilyn Trockel of Loftin & Company. Since I’ve always enjoyed Neenah’s paper lines, and have used them numerous times throughout my career, I was excited to participate in the contest. The bright, bold colors and textures of Neenah’s ESSE® line proved to be the perfect match for my clock design.
Island Time was inspired by my love of the Caribbean. As the entry description stated my entry was “One part clock, one part shadow box… all Neenah Paper. Since we all daydream about vacation, the inspiration for this design stems from the question we ask ourselves over and over… How much longer until vacation? Here’s to vacation starting… soon.
Once the design and entry was complete, the strategy began for driving traffic to my entry. The rules of the contest clearly stated the winner of the contest would be based on the total number of votes received. I contacted everyone in my network and actively promoted my entry through social media channels. The local Charlotte community got behind my entry and drove it up to 1st place within 3 short days. Because of their ongoing support, my entry stayed in the 1st place position throughout the remainder of the contest.
It was an honor to participate in such a great contest, have my design showcased with other great work, and to be declared one of the winners. I can’t thank everyone who posted comments and voted enough – it is greatly appreciated. Now it is exciting to see my design featured on Neenah Papers new iPhone / iPad app.
