Interface + CONSERVATION Paper: The Perfect Pairing

Interface® Deploys CONSERVATION® Papers

to Celebrate the Beauty of Sustainable Design

It’s been forty years since Ray Anderson founded Interface®, a design, innovation and sustainability leader in modular soft-surfaced floor coverings. In simpler terms, they design and manufacture carpet tiles for both consumer and commercial markets.

And while the product has always been important, in the last twenty years Interface has also turned its attention to sustainability. Interface’s Mission Zero® statement is: Our Commitment to eliminate negative impact on the environment by the year 2020.

“In 1994, Interface® Founder Ray Anderson challenged us to pursue a bold new vision ‘Be the first company that, by its deeds, shows the entire world what sustainability is in all its dimensions: people, process, product, place and profits – and in doing so, become restorative through the power of influence,” said Steve Arbaugh, Vice President Creative Strategy & Planning at Interface Americas.

To promote the creative opportunities of our campaigns and product as well as our mission to sustainability, each year for nine years Interface has designed and published a global magazine offering design and visual inspiration for architects, designers, product specifiers and end-use customers alike. The magazine is a balance of editorial content and beautiful original photography featuring Interface products in stunning interiors.

The paper we chose for the magazine couldn’t have been more ideal. Neenah’s CONSERVATION Papers is an amazing value for a sheet that’s 100% postconsumer recycled paper and FSC Certified. Due to its high opacity, we were able to specify 60lb. Text in FLUORESCENT WHITE for our oversize tabloid format. So the paper choice was not only ideal because of its printability, but also because it mirrors our own commitment to sustainability. — Steve Arbaugh,Vice President Creative Strategy & Planning at Interface Americas

Interface has collaborated for years with Unique Active, a Chicago-based printer, for paper selection and the printing process, from the beginning through finish. Says Arbaugh, “We rely on them because they are an environmentally responsible printer that invests in processes to recycle materials, reduce waste and VOCs. Their mission fits ours.”

The global magazine is designed by Interface in-house design, led by Marcus Wiedenhoeft who has worked with there for 17 years.  The photography that appears in this feature was produced by photographer Bruce Quist, a long-time Interface collaborator.

Neenah Paper is delighted to call attention to this publication and honor Ray Anderson and Interface for their historic commitment to sustainability. Moreover, their selection of Neenah’s CONSERVATION Papers is testament to our commitment too the same purpose. Thank you, Interface!  (Please see design and production credits below.)
