Faun Chapin and Meg Paradise, designers and founding partners of Guts & Glory have a unique design mantra that roughly translates to “if at all possible, use gold foil.” Which is exactly what they did in their representation of the city of Oakland, CA in the new Neenah Future Classic promotion.  Enjoy the complete interview with Oaklandʼs dynamic duo here.

For the assignment of visually interpreting what inspires them about their city, they focused on the rich musical heritage.Oakland is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country and has a long history of music, beginning with the Jazz Age through to the hip hop and R&B artists of the ʻ80ʼs and 90ʼs. We focused on hip hop because these are the names that most people will recognize: Tupac, En Vogue, Too $hort, MC Hammer, Del The Funky Homosapien and Shelia E.”Faun Chapin


The line illustrations are foil-stamped to preserve detail, while the record (yes, it spins!) is raised UV printed to create the
unique surface texture of a classic vinyl record.
