Portland’s Beauty Inspires
Paper Artist, Designer Emily Brown

Emily Brown is a cut-paper artist and designer from Portland, Oregon. When Design Army asked Brown to interpret what inspires her about her city, for the Neenah Future Classic promotion, she prepared by getting outdoors, and getting her hands on some Neenah CLASSIC® Papers.

Brown’s solution was to create an invitation to celebrate the summer solstice in Portland’s Forest Park, where she often finds inspiration.

“Forest Park is acres upon acres of forest and trails right at the edge of the city. Portland’s proximity to amazing hiking inspires my love for this place.” — Emily Brown

By combining a die-cut sleeve with a die-cut and embossed insert, Emily replicated the feel of hand cutting on press. “Hand-cut paper is my usual medium, and I love showing off the meticulousness and delicacy of it by layering it in the shadow boxes. With this piece I was able to make something in that style without the shadow box.”
