Guess Who Just Turned Four?

Written by in Color & Texture

Main Street Magic:
No 6.25 Paper Studio Celebrates Four Years

Remember when many “futurists” foretold the death of printing? Well, printing did not die. It simply moved home and opened up shop on Main Street. Abbey Fowler is one of thousands of small, print, design, paper businesses owned and operated by young men and women who bought up cast-off small presses, hung up a shingle on high street, and invited the town in for tea. It has been four years and the good people of Grand Rapids, Michigan have not stopped stopping in.

Owning your own small business is even more awesome. Ask Abbey Fowler.

When Abbey Fowler left her job as art director at a publishing company in 2009, she had long envisioned opening up a print/design shop, but she didn’t think it would come as quickly as two years later.

6.25 Paper Studio does a lot of handwork that attracts a wide variety of customers.

In 2011, she opened No. 6.25 Paper Studio in Grand Rapids, Mich., and has been a print evangelist ever since. A year after opening, she doubled in space, and eventually moved to a larger storefront a couple of doors down. “It’s been a whirlwind of fast growth which means not a lot of profits, but a lot of joy in facilitating my visions. My staff is the greatest and we all revel in the pleasure and amusement we provide to our customers. We work around constant laughter, the best benefit I could provide or ever ask for!” she says. Yesterday, the store celebrated its fourth year in business, a major accomplishment for a local card shop.

“I’m honored every day to be doing what I love, to work with people who care about this business, and to be helping customers find a reason to connect with others,” Fowler notes. “Sending cards is far from dead. We just have an edge on what people honestly want to say.” — Abbey Fowler

Having your daughter lend a hand with the business is another benefit of owning a small paper — and glue — boutique.
