Written by in Uncategorized

The 2017 AIGA Design Conference is once again in the wonderful city of Minneapolis. And you know it’s a 2017 design event, as Draplin Design Co. has a pop-up booth selling the hottest design merchandise in the business.

A number of mingling / coffee / hours are set-up as breaks where you get a feel for the turnout of the event.

The second half of the “Craft of Design” symposia started with sign painter and illustrator Heather Hardison. And if you wondered why companies still need hand painted signs? “Handpainted signs let your customers know you plan to stay around for a while – and that you care about your business.” Craft still matters. And as Heather says about sign painting, “You have to have an attitude from a different time – because this is a career from a different time.”

If you missed Draplin at AIGA, he’s getting ready for another tour. Even though this was his 331st talk, he was introduced with a “our next speaker is an up-and-coming designer” … “he makes notebooks sometimes” … “I think he’s opening an easy shop soon”…

An assortment of Draplin’s patches. The Orange Juice one is being made into hats. Why? “I can’t wait for someone to say, ‘what is that from?’ ‘I don’t know, I just found it in a thrift shop.'”
